July Astro Magic 2022 

I must admit that I may be biased this month being a Leo, but I hope my exuberance over the sign can be a catalyst for inner change, transformation, and some good ole’ magic. 

Leo season is ruled by the Sun, and in Greek myth, the Sun is associated with the God Apollo.

Now, Apollo has quite the resume – he is the Sun God, a cosmocrator, he removes curses, he is the god of music and the father of the nine Muses, and he is also a god of healing.

That is some list! 

Since the Sun is the center of the solar system, it is not surprising that Apollo governs so many facets of life. Likewise, we can use the energy of the Sun to perform potent magic. And guess what? You don’t need any sunscreen! 

When people think of the sign of Leo (and again I am biased), they think of showy, extroverted types that need to be the center of attention. Leo is considered a ‘creator type’ because they are often involved in the performing arts. However, the deeper core of what Leo is creating has little to do with entertaining the masses – entertaining is simply a byproduct. Instead, each creation, each part, and each role get them closer to what they long for – being themselves. 

The exciting news: This month, we all get to tap into this powerfully potent energy and use it proactively to create our lives.

5 Ways to Make the Most Out of Leo Season 

1. Personal Power Magic: Standing in one’s personal power is an elusive phrase. We have a hard time describing it, but we know it when it happens. Personal power is when you are authentically who you are and pay honor to your wants and needs. If you need encouragement, inner conviction, a little bit of gumption, and the need to express your individual values in a way that boosts your confidence, this is the best type of magic to work with.

   In myth, Apollo was a curse breaker, and he didn’t remove hexes by tapping someone on the head with a wand. He removed curses by providing the proper pathway through insight and ingenuity. Perhaps, the more we know ourselves, and when we are true to our own values, we eliminate the power that curses hold over us. Only then are we free!

Cosmic Overview

The first part of the month of July is the calm before the storm that occurs during the second half of the month. So, if you want to go on vacation, make a major business deal, or improve your personal relationships, make sure you do it in early July. 

As we continue to move through Cancer season, there are a couple of dates to make note of: 

July 10th: The Sun sextiles Uranus – great for innovative change and new discoveries that could potentially be life-altering. 

July 13th: Venus sextiles Saturn and Mercury sextiles Uranus. Venus sextile Saturn is excellent for business agreements and formalizing contracts and other legal agreements. Mercury sextile Uranus brings new insights and awareness and amps up your intuition. 

July 17th: Sun trine Neptune – Need a spiritual reboot? There is no better time to connect with the “other world”, now is the time. 

The end of July is where the trouble begins. First, in early July, Mars will move out of Aries and into Taurus. Mars changing signs also changes his dignity. He goes from a sign he rules into the sign of his detriment – meaning Mars feels uncomfortable in Taurus and often doesn’t have the strength to handle the energies (especially his hard aspects to other planets) effectively. 

In Taurus, Mars uses his willpower and needs to get what he wants and desires by being productive and resourceful. Since Taurus is a fixed sign, stability is a key factor of the sign. Forcing Mars to be still is like watching a five-year-old in a doctor’s office – they are hard to manage and contain.

While Mars is in Taurus, it’s necessary for us to be still, and ensure that our physical needs are met. It’s an excellent time to gather resources, not to use them, but to ensure they are available. 

Later in the month, Mercury enters the picture once he moves into Leo. The trickster god will square Mars, square Uranus, and oppose Saturn. So, the last few days of July will be highly combustible, and again we will trigger Saturn square Uranus. Also, these issues will all bleed into August, when Mars retriggers Saturn and Uranus again. 

So, how will this work? 

Saturn square Uranus has been around for the last two years. Together, the planets reflect the need to tear down existing structures that prevent our lives from moving forward. There are many ways that we get stuck in a rut. We stay in jobs we don’t like because they are secure or offer us benefit packages. We stay in relationships because we fear being alone, we practice dysfunctional behaviors because they are familiar. However, there comes a time when the rubber hits the road, and we have no choice but to change. 

Now, we can work with the energy, do inner inventory, and make the changes on our own. Or the universe (or the unconscious) will make these changes for us. In the end, the latter is probably the bitterest pill to swallow. 

There is some good news! Since Mercury will be the first planet to activate this planetary grouping, we will have the opportunity to become aware of what needs to change. We can then proactively use this information to create a plan of action.

Full Moon in Capricorn 

The Full Moon occurs on July 13th in Capricorn. This Full Moon forms a beneficial aspect to expansive Jupiter, which will help boost any magical work you do. It’s a good time to do career magic, improve your sphere of influence, and work towards achieving your goals. Spells to improve your business are phenomenally successful during a Full Moon in Capricorn.

New Moon in Leo 

The New Moon this month occurs in fiery Leo on July 28th. This New Moon is all about you. It’s a great month to do magic and intention work that involves putting yourself in the best light. You can use this energy to get a new job, a promotion, start a new romantic relationship, or even begin new projects. So, this month, do you and do it well.

Weekly Breakdown

July 4, 2022 – July 10, 2022 

If you expected internal fireworks this holiday week, you will be disappointed, because we start the week off with Mars moving into stable Taurus. In the sign of the bull, stubborn Mars is steadfast and determined, and the next six weeks present us with an opportunity to get the hard stuff done. Mars in Taurus doesn’t like to quit, and he will work tirelessly to ensure your life feels stable and secure. On Tuesday, Mercury moves into gentle Cancer. Emotions and intellectual responses will trump the rational intellect, but be careful of how you use your words because they can either heal or destroy. 

Towards the middle of the week, the Moon will move through fair and balanced Libra. Wednesday and Thursday are excellent days to focus on your relationships (all of them) and give them the sustenance they need. However, watch out on Thursday evening as the Moon squares turbulent Pluto. Intense emotions may surface that may be difficult to handle, and you may overreact to situations unnecessarily. 

The weekend looks bright and cheery, as Mercury squares Jupiter and the Sun sextiles Uranus. It’s an excellent weekend to look at your long-range plans and proceed with a course of action. Just make sure you pay close attention to the details because Mercury square Jupiter can be sloppy some of the time. Also, if you need to make sudden changes in your life, this weekend is the time to do it, and the Sun sextile Uranus will give you much-needed assistance.

July 11, 2022 – July 17, 2022 

We start the week off with the Moon moving through fun-loving Sagittarius. It’s an excellent time to enjoy a little fun in the Sun and make the most of the seasonably warm temperatures. On Tuesday, the Moon shifts into serious Capricorn and forms a lovely trine to energetic Mars. It’s a good day to tackle any projects that need completion, and Mars will give you an extra energy boost. 

Towards the middle of the week, the action begins with a Full Moon in Capricorn (see above) and a plethora of astrological aspects, mainly focused on relationships. The love goddess, Venus, forms a lovely trine to Saturn in Aquarius, and she (Venus) forms a difficult square to Neptune in Pisces. If your relationships are going through struggles, you may want to check if your expectations are unrealistic. It’s time to get real and ensure your emotional needs are met, and difficult conversations may be necessary. Any relationship crises that occur at this time can be resolved through patience, understanding, and accepting that your partners are human. 

As for the weekend, the Sun and Mercury conjoin in Cancer. You will feel the need to socialize and connect with your inner circle. It’s also a perfect time to make plans for the future because you are clearer about the way you want to manifest your best life. On Sunday, both the Sun and Mercury form lovely trines to Neptune. You will notice that your creative juices will flow steadily, and your spiritual interests may take center stage.

July 18, 2022 – July 24, 2022

The third week of July starts with a pair of difficult aspects – the Sun and Mercury oppose Pluto in Capricorn. 

The challenging part of this potent combo is that you may experience power plays, manipulation, and coercion. You may feel compelled to act without considering the long-term consequences. Additionally, both the Sun and Mercury in opposition to Pluto can be obsessive, and you may have to act proactively to push away your thought processes or mental constructs. However, despite the difficulties inherent with these aspects, the areas of your life that desperately need change may be revealed to you, especially areas currently on life-support. You can use the power boost inherent with Pluto to create the changes necessary to improve your life. 

The middle of the week brings us the Moon moving through Aries and Taurus. It’s an excellent time to take action if you’ve been holding back or waiting for the perfect time to initiate change or begin something new. Also, it’s time to take a moment (or several) and enjoy your life. A little rest and relaxation can properly feed your soul. 

The weekend starts with the Sun moving into joyful Leo. It’s an excellent time to build self-confidence and reinvent a new you. On Saturday, Mercury in Leo forms a lovely trine to Jupiter. In addition to creating a new you, it’s also time to plan your future moves. You will feel optimistic about the future and open to new experiences.

July 25, 2022 – July 31, 2022 

The last week of July starts with a fun-filled Venus-Jupiter square. You will have trouble being disciplined, so you might as well do something you enjoy. You will feel good, enjoy the company of others, and they will enjoy you. However, be careful on Tuesday, because Mercury squares Mars in stubborn Taurus, and you may find that you are easily agitated and irritated by others. Make sure you communicate carefully, because you may say something you will regret later. The motto for Mercury square Mars is “loose lips sink ships”. 

Towards the middle of the week, Mercury squares Uranus. Your mind will be in overdrive mode, and sometimes you will feel inspired, and sometimes you may feel overwhelmed. Mercury square Uranus requires flexibility, and if you are overly rigid, this could be a day when you are thrown off your game by unexpected circumstances beyond your control. Try to go with the flow, rather than fight against it. 

This week is a conflicting bag of tricks. First, we have Mercury opposed Saturn. You may go through feelings of self-doubt and be plagued with insecurities. Try to push away negative thoughts if they surface. Secondly, the Sun trines Jupiter. Sun trine Jupiter is an extremely positive aspect that is perfect if you need to accomplish something. It may be best to focus on personal projects that will keep Mercury square Saturn at bay. You may even discover new things about yourself or crave new experiences.
