The New Year is the perfect time to clean house and start fresh. Out with the old, in with the new. New year, new me. However you want to say it, this quick and easy ceremony will help you get rid of all of last year's baggage and help you start the New Year off on the right foot.
Burning Bowl Ceremony
This ceremony can be done on your own or along with those you trust. Note that if you do it with a group, the commitment to the release is intensified.
You’re going to need:
- A candle: A dressed plain or a blessed votive (We recommend a votive, that way it will be finished when the ceremony is completed)
- Metal or tempered glass bowl
- Lighter or matches
- Something to write with
- Paper
Once you have gathered all of your materials, start by placing the candle in the center of the metal or tempered glass bowl. Meditate on the candle flame with the intention of releasing what is limiting your growth. While you’re doing this, allow your mind and emotions to drift. What is ready to be released will float to the top.
Write out what you want to release on a piece of paper, and visualize what you’re letting go of moving from your energy and body to the piece of paper. Say an affirmation of release of your own, or use this example:
Today I release what I don't want from my past. I forgive myself and trust in the forgiveness of divine love. I let go of feelings of self-blame, shame, and guilt. I release any connection or hook from or to another. I allow the sacred rhythm of life to heal and renew me. I open my heart to release what no longer serves my highest good, and I am blessed with love, peace, joy, and harmony.
Light the piece of paper with the flame and drop it into the bowl with the candle. Watch the smoke rise and pull with it any resistance you had to letting go. As you watch the smoke disappear, you become free of the burden you released. Restate the affirmation and focus on gratitude by making a list of what you’re grateful for and how that will help support your transformation after this release. After you’re done and feel complete, put the candle out and get rid of the remains in the garbage away from your house or work.
And there you have it, my friend. You have released those things that have been dragging you down, and you are ready for a brand new year!
As a reminder- NEVER leave a burning candle unattended. Remove all packaging from any candles or candle holders.
